Altitude training....

Some of you no doubt have heard me talk about the altitude tent that I had Been sleeping in since mid February before I went away. If you havent it is a large tent that goes over the bed. Air of a reduxed o2 content is pump into the tent to simulate altitude conditions, this is the method of altitude training research refers to as live high train low.  Sleeping at night has been great without the background hum of the compressor on the altitude generator.

Well to keep the effect going I have a portable cartridge system where u essentially rebreath air and can adjust the %o2 level by adjusting the amount if fresh air entering the circuit. Thankfully with the travell system you don't sleep with it, you do intervals at reduced o2 levels then back at normal and repeat for about an hour. You adjust the o2 level so that you get ablood oxygen %saturation of around 70-75%, as your body adapts u end up breathing a lower and lower %o2 to achieve this..

To make sure that I respond I also have to take vitamin c and iron tablets and make sure I get between 1-2g of protein/kg of bodyweight... As you can imagine I am begining to get over taking vitamins.. Not to mention that I have to drink more as it has a dehydrating effect on the body.

All the research tends to indicate an increase in performance from
Altitude training... Hopefully i see the benefits race day!

If anyone wants to rent the tent let me know I am sure we can come to some arrangement....
