Today dawns and I am yet again awake early, I just can't seem to be able to sleep past 330-4am at the moment, which is beginning to be frustrating. So I am again sitting in the kitchen writing my blog, reading and watching helmet cam footage on the iPad waiting for the others to get up before the early Internet/bread run into Aime. I am also enduring in a typically European breakfast of special K, and milk with a large spoon of chocolate powder... So healthy!
The days are beginning to blend together, I must admit I had to ask what day of the week it was yesterday, which is a massive change from the normal routine of work/ life. I am starting to really relax and get into the swing of things which is pretty cool.
Yesterday was a big day on the river, with some speed and race speed intervals above the classic start to the goat bridge(about half way down the course). This session was tough, trying to pull hard yet not get smashed in the waves. To go fast on this type of water it is important to time paddle strokes to the waves other wise the boat ends up wallowing, you waste energy and get lots of waves over the deck. As the session went on I got my self together and started to nail this, and take the opportunity to really windup when the river flattened out a little.
My early afternoons are spent doing what ever I can to stay awake and not have a nap.. This usually Involves a mixture of watching paddling vids and old episodes of how I met your mother or scrubs.
Our afternoon session involved a couple of classic runs. I feel I am starting to figure out where I need to be, although I don't always pull it off.. I did manage a very nice roll in the second run, which much to everyone's amusement was on one of the only flat bits in the last 6 minutes of the course..
I will post some video soon, I just need to find an app for my iPad that will let me cut the footage into a smaller piece.
Somehow a post training desire for gelati turned into us going out for dinner, just your standard snails and pizza as you do.
Today is a recovery day:), which will be much appreciated. I will do a very easy paddle on the lake in my virginal race boat to figure out what I need to change about the seat angle, then we are going to do some touristy things. Which I think means see how high up a mountain we can get! So expect some scenery photos tomorrow.
I have put up some photos from yesterday as well.
