Well ww have been in sort for 2 days now, it is a little village in northeastern Spain. We are down In a river valley with hills that have snow on the highest parts.. I guess we would probably call those hills mountains in Australia.
We haven't paddled the whole river yet. We have started out paddling the lower sections just to tune up to the water before getting on the tougher top part of the course. The bottom still has enough go to push the boat around and if I am not on the ball give me a good face full of water. I feel like after a few runs I am starting to find my touch on the water and will start to learn the top today. The water level is at a low at the moment. No one really knows if it will be higher or lower for the race. From what we can figure out from the Spanish guys who are staying at the same place as us they don't know either but it seems to be rai n/snowmelt dependant.
We are rating at the local canoe school, which is great. It has bunkhouse accomodation, matt and I have a 12 bunk room to ourselves. So far I have resisted the small child in me a managed not to sleep on the top bunk. We are getting all three meals here, it would be really easy to eat way to much as it is dining hall style dining. I still can't get used to having dinner at 830 or 9 o'clock at night though... Hello we are athletes we want to eat earlier... Surprisingly I am not getting massively strung out by this.. Yet...!
The canoe school is right on the river and also has a pool for teaching little kids to paddle, which looks about the right length for 20" sprints . They also have wireless Internet which is great, I am really appreciating the iPhone.
I will post some photos latter on today when I get a chance.
Today we are going to start learning the top of the classic course. We are hoping to be able to work in with the Spanish guys... We are also off to the lake for some speed. Jet lag has flattened me out a little, but I am hoping today I start to feel stronger on the river.
Tomorrow we are going to go and check out Andorra, and hopefully find some snow.. It also promises to be a fun drive over a couple of passes in the hire car.
Anyways I should go and eat breakfast
Adios
Foo
